The Day of the Lord: Victory, Restoration, and Universal Worship
Zechariah 14:1-21
1Behold, a day is coming for the LORD when spoil will be divided in your midst.2I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem for battle; the city will be captured, the houses plundered, and the women ravished. Half the city will go out into captivity, and the rest of the people will not be cut off from the city.3The LORD will come out and fight against those nations as he fought on the day of battle.4On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which faces Jerusalem on the east. The Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west by a very great valley; half the mountain will move north and half of it south.5You will flee through the valley of my mountain, because the valley of the mountains will reach to Azal. You will flee as you fled before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then the LORD my God will come, and all the holy ones with him.6On that day there will be no light; the precious things will be congealed and frozen.7It will be a unique day, known only to the LORD—neither day nor night—and at evening time there will be light.8On that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem, half of it to the eastern sea and half to the western sea, in summer and in autumn alike.9The LORD will be king over all the earth. On that day the LORD will be one, and his name one.10The whole land will become like the Arabah, from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem. Jerusalem will be raised up and remain in its place, from the Benjamin Gate to the site of the first gate, to the Corner Gate, and from the tower of Hananel to the king's winepresses.11They will dwell in it, and no longer will anything devoted remain; Jerusalem will dwell in security.12This will be the plague with which the LORD strikes all the peoples who wage war against Jerusalem: their flesh will rot while they stand on their feet, their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths.13On that day a great panic from the LORD will be among them; each man will seize his neighbor's hand, and his hand will rise against his neighbor's hand.14Judah also will fight at Jerusalem, and the wealth of all the surrounding nations—gold, silver, and garments—will be gathered in great abundance.15The same plague will strike the horse, the mule, the camel, the donkey, and all the animals in those camps.16Then all who survive from the nations that came against Jerusalem will go up year after year to worship the king, the LORD of hosts, and to celebrate the feast of booths.17If any of the families of the earth do not go up to Jerusalem to worship the king, the LORD of hosts, they will have no rain.18If the family of Egypt does not go up and does not come, then the plague with which the LORD strikes the nations that fail to celebrate the feast of booths will fall on them as well.19This will be the punishment of Egypt and of all the nations that do not go up to celebrate the feast of booths.20On that day the bells of the horses will be inscribed "Holy to the LORD," and the pots in the house of the LORD will be like the bowls before the altar.21Every pot in Jerusalem and Judah will be holy to the LORD of hosts, and all who sacrifice will come and boil their sacrifices in them; and there will no longer be any merchant in the house of the LORD of hosts on that day.
